Powell Boyer, Interviews

Hi all, my name is Powell and I am pleased to meet you. To start, a little bit about me.  I was born in Las Vegas, NV and raised in a small town outside of Reno, NV.  From a young age I would listen to records in our garage with my dad every night.  I grew up listening to Pink Floyd, Eric Clapton, Led Zeppelin and our absolute favorite Mr. Bob Dylan.  This was my first introduction to music, and I still go back to the classics almost on a daily basis.  Fast forward to High School; I got a job at a local record store slash tattoo shop slash piercing shop.  This was the only place in my town that you could really find metal music.  They didn’t sell it at our local Malmart, so all “that music” had to be ordered special.  This shop was especially cool because we carried at the time (and in a small town) what was considered obscure metal music. Bands like Cannibal Corpse, Mayhem and Immortal just to name a few, but there are too many to mention.  I would say that this shop is where my education into metal really began.  Over the years while finishing school and attending college I would go to as many local shows as my town would provide. Being a small town there wasn’t too much to offer.  It wasn’t until I moved to Los Angeles that I really began to dive into the metal scene full force.  One of my part-time jobs was located at the time on Sunset Blvd and it was called the Cat Club, it was next door to the Whiskey and provided access to so many live shows on a nightly basis.  My job at the Cat Club was to interview the musicians after they played their sets and we would post those interviews online.  It became pretty popular and I was able to meet so many new, interesting and talented people.  Currently, I still live in L.A and attend concerts regularly; I also have added festivals like Wacken, 70,000 Tons of Metal, and Motorboat just to name a few.  Over the years I have been so lucky to meet so many amazing people within the metal community and I am very much looking forward to sharing with you some of their stories.
