Danish band Cold Night For Alligators may have a goofy name (It's the name of a Roky Erickson song), but do not let that fool you. These dudes can play. Course Of Events is the band's first full length album after a couple of self-released demos.

This band sounds just like Periphery to me. Djent is a growing genre (thanks, Meshuggah!) and it's hard to stand out from the pioneers and the followers. The guitar playing is pretty solid on tracks like “Followers”, “Art”, “Eunoia”, and “Calculated Accident”, and fits in with the genre. Almost has an Animals As Leaders sound, but no one is Tosin. The drumming blends in well, taking a backseat to the dual guitar attack. Nothing to hate there.

The clean vocals kinda of bug me, but the comes with the djenty territory. The softer stuff has good melody, but its when the band goes into overdrive is when I'm more interested. “Art” is probably my favorite song on Course of Events, but “Retrogress” and “Eunoia” are up there also.

There's some potential to stand out here. I think if the band sticks to the harder, djent/mathcore sound, they could put out something along the lines of Dillinger Escape Plan. These guys should be on a label. I like what Cold Night For Alligators is all about, but I'm not not convinced it's not something I've already heard.
